Since completing my PhD I've jumped headlong into the brave new world of data science. A lot of exciting computational and statistical work is being done in nearly every avenue of human endeavor now that collecting and storing data is no longer requires armies of archivists and forests of file cabinets. Big data, machine learning, and predictive analytic are all making great strides in exploring a range of fascinating questions beyond their traditional realm of science, engineering, and high finance. We can today leverage the mountains of data and computational muscle at our ready disposal to ask and answer a range of questions that would have been unapproachable a decade or so hence.
Here I present my work with the Automated Analysis of Constructed Response (AACR) research group, along with some earlier attempts to stick my toes in the waters of data science and wiggle them about a bit. Most of the works small projects displayed were banged together in a few hours while exploring the tools of the trade.
